I am the daughter of two fine parents Arzo and Easeline Ellis. I was
born to these 2 people when my mother was 15 and my father 17. They had
to have the consent of an adult to sign for them to get married. I was
the first of 11 children born to this union.Three years later my sister
was born. My father had moved to Michigan from Arkansaw to find work. I
am now 68 years old so you can figure it out that times were hard
during those years. He sent for us when I was 3 and my sister 6 months
old. There were 4 girls and 7 boys.
I was very sickly during my childhood of which I have no memory of.
Thank God I outgrew whatever it was I had. They didn't think I would
live to get grown. I grew up in Lansing Mi. I didn't finish high school
for I got a job working to help my dad because my mother was unable to
work. I married young to get away from home which was a big mistake. I
have 8 children of my own. I had to raise them alone. He walked off and
left me with the kids and he with the money. Today I am proud that they
are all grown with children of their own. I got my GED at the age of
50, being in the top 10, after 29 years out of school. I got involved
with UNITY and my life changed for the better. I have moved about a lot
since my family is on their own. I am now the eldest of about 156
people in my family and the most healthest, happiest and I thank God
for that. I am now in my 3rd year of being Foster Grandparent 4 days a
week at an elementary school. I have been with the same class since 3rd
grade. It has helped me for so much has changed since my kids. It was
because of the kids last year that I become interested in computers.
Before that I had no interst at all.It has opened up a whole new
world for me. I have learned to surf the web a little. I found this
site. I am online with my son in Korea, daughter in Atlanta and family
in Florida. My goal is to be able to keep up with these young people
and show them one is never to old to learn.
