I am a graduate student studying to be a costume designer. I love
to make beautiful things. Working in theatre arts is incredibly
rewarding. There is so much to be learned from the stage.. it
liberates us by offering the opportunity to portray people and
feelings that are far from ourselves. I enjoy creating costumes for
the stage to help actors step into the characters they create and to
help them express these thoughts and feelings to an audience. Theatre
touches people. I remember the first time I saw a professional dance
company perform, and what I recall most vivdly was their clothing and
it's fluidity. I want to create something as splendid as Julie
Taymor's work for the Lion King on Broadway. Something that people
will look at years from now and recognize. Who doesn't remember the
white halter dress Marilyn Monroe struggled to hold down from the rush
of wind above the subway grating in "The Seven Year Itch" or the red
dress Scarlett wore in "Gone With the Wind"? I want to create
something lasting. I also hope to become a mother. I have three
sisters who are much older than I am who have been excellent role
models for me. They all have been blessed with children, so I have a
large supportive family and many nieces and nephews. I hope that
someday I can pass on the values I have learned from my family to
children of my own. I want to be able to move through life touching
as many people as possible. Friendship is important to me. If I
could I would surround myself constantly with the people I have grown
to love and I would invite everyone I met to join that community of
friendship.
