ERRRRRRRRRrrrrrrr.... **&%*)(*^$)&&$(@&!)!!! I hate this code crap!!!!!!!!!! I've just been accepted... or I've just been SUSPENDED... I don't understand it and I am so frustrated I could spit!!!
Yes. I know. It is a pain in the butt isn't it? But, I have taken the time to write out every darn question and answer that has been presented to me over time managing all of these rings.
The one thing that you MUST do is read - thoroughly. Take your time - don't skim. I can't tell you how many people go off half-cocked and write to me blasting me for one reason or another because they did not READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Before you rush to write and demand an answer RIGHT NOW... relax and read through the questions. If you do not see your problem addressed here... then write to me at the email address at the top of the page.
2.
NOTE: This is the most frequentlyasked question. Once you understand its meaning, you probably will have figuredout the foundation of the webring. The question is: What EXACTLY doesthis mean: "THE URL THAT YOU SPECIFY THE WEBRING POINT TO *MUST* POINT TOTHAT PAGE AND NO OTHER URL."
When you enter your site into the webring, the webring asks what the URL of your site is. Your first response would be to enter in the URL of the opening page of your site... right? Actually, what the text should say is: "What is the URL of the page on your website where you will ultimately place the webring code on?"
If in fact, you do enter the URL of the opening page of your site, and you really do place the code on that same page (the opening page of your site), then all is fine and well, your site will register: "Passes" with the webring checker.
However, if you enter the URL of your opening page of your site, and in fact you stick the code on a page that has all of your webrings on it—or you bury the code somewhere else on your site—you site will register "Fails" by the webring checker.
You can no longer enter the page that you would LIKE the webring to send visitors to your site. Instead - now you have to enter the page that the webring fragment is actually on—and THAT's where the visitors will come to when they arrive at your site from the webring.
A lot of people have a "webring page." It is a page that holds all the fragments for different webrings they belong to - and so they specify the webring to point to that URL. If you have a page(s) that hold all of your webrings, The URL that you specify the webring point to *must* point to that page and no other URL
3.
What are "webring fragments" and "webring code"?
Both are the same. The terms are used interchangeably. The webring fragment/webring code is either the SSNB and/or the pretty custom designed box that has all of the webring information in it. The HTML webring fragment will always have a bigger picture of the ring logo in it than the SSNB does.
4.
I was accepted into a webring and I did not receive the code for the ring in my acceptance letter. What's up with that?
That's correct - the code is not in the letter. However, if you scroll down a bit in the letter, you will see numbered paragraphs. In [Par 2] has the URL of where you will find the code. At that URL, you are given a choice to use either the beautiful custom code fragment designed by PhenomenalWomen.com -OR- you can opt to use the Webring.com's SSNB (Server Side Navigation Bar).
5.
I want to join one of your webrings, but it says I need a Webring ID. Is that true?
Yes. In order to join any ring within Webring.com, a User ID is necessary. It is that User ID that identifies you to every webring you join. You can go here to sign up for your User ID: http://new.webring.com/cgi-bin/signup?start
6.
I just got a suspension notice from a ring that I have belonged to for a long time. I have not touched the code since I put it on my site! WHY have I been suspended????
Since you joined the ring, rules of code placement have changed. The site was suspended because the URL you specified the webring to point to does not have either the custom HTML code fragment or the SSNB on it. Please remember, the URL (page) that you specified the ring to point to must have the custom html code fragment or the SSNB placed on it.*See question #2 above*
7.
I have belonged to the ring for a time and have always used the little button that points to my page of rings that has the webring fragment on it. Now, you are saying that I can't use that button anymore - is that true?
Yes, that is true. The use of the small pointer button is longer accepted in the webrings of PhenomenalWomen.com. You MUST have the code on the same page as the webring is pointing to, or your site will be suspended until such time as the matter is corrected.*See question #2 above*
8.
I have a page(s) that holds all of my webring fragments, do I have to enter that URL in the webring as the URL the webring will point to?
Yes. A lot of people have a "webring page." It is a page that holds all the fragments for different webrings they belong to - and so they specify the webring to point to that URL. If you have a page(s) that hold all of your webrings, The URL that you specify the webring point to *must* point to that page and no other URL.*See question #2 above*
9.
"I don't even know what my site ID number is!!!"
That is easy to find out! Go to the page on your site that has the webring fragment on it. Hold your mouse under the link that says NEXT. See the URL? It will look something like this:
http://f.webring.com/go?ring=phenomenalwomen&id=YOUR-SITE ID NUMBER WILL BE HERE&next
Where I have substituted YOUR-SITE ID NUMBER WILL BE HERE - is your site ID number! So for example, if your site ID number is 999, the URL would look like this:
11.
I have been a member of this ring for a long time, but when I look for my site in the ring, I can't find myself.
If you searched through the list of rings (from the URL in the answer above) and still cannot find your site, simply go to the webring and re-join the ring. Don't knock yourself out trying to find it.
12.
When I mouse under my code, it still says the word "yahoo" in the URL, and my site has been suspended and/or I can't find myself listed in the ring - what do I do?
YAHOO! and Webring.com disolved their partnership in 2001. If your webring code does in fact have 'yahoo' in it, simply remove that code form your site and re-join the ring.
13.
I dropped out of the ring and removed the code from my website yet I am still receiving mail from the ring. I don't want to receive any more mail from the ring, how do I make it stop?
When you join a webring, you do so voluntarily. In the same respect, unless your site has been dropped or removed for ring violations, when you want to leave the ring - YOU and YOU ALONE are responsible for removing yourself from the ring. Unless you formally remove yourself from the ring at WebRing, you are still listed as an active site. PhenomenalWomen.com will NOT remove your site from the WebRing—it is YOUR responsibility.

I'm using AOL and the webring fragment blows apart on my page and looks nothing like what it is supposed to, what do I do?
If you are using AOL... and are having trouble with the code going nuts on your pages or having trouble with downloading graphics, please CONSULT AOL'S HELP PAGES - or write to AOL directly. PhenomenalWomen.com cannot possibly address all of the work-arounds that AOL users must endure to place codes on their sites - nor can PhenomenalWomen.com explain why AOL's "html editor" blows apart and all but destroys codes for webrings. Please contact AOL directly about this. This much is certain - if you use a quality html editor like Microsoft FrontPage as one example to author your web pages ---- you will NEVER have to endure the endless problems with your codes blowing apart on your pages. PhenomenalWomen.com will not troubleshoot problems with blown-apart code fragments from AOL's editor or any other "site builder" type editors. Every Phenomenal Woman should know how to manipulate raw html code in notepad. It is a very basic function of webmastering sites.
16.
I need to change information in my Webring profile, how can I do that? Can you change it for me?
All of your information regarding your site within the webring may be found and edited at WebRing. Go here to login. PhenomenalWomen.com has nothing to do with issuing you a username or password to access your information. You must have a WebRing ID to be a part of any webring. At no time, will PhenomenalWomen.com edit any of your site information. All of the tools you need to accomplish this are explained on this page. Go to Webring and log in to the system. You will be shown a list of your rings. Click on the ring you want to edit and follow the instructions.
17.
I joined the ring, I was accepted, I put the CUSTOM code on my site and the graphic does not show up.
You have to save the graphic for the webring to your hard drive, then, upload it to your OWN server. Make sure the path to the graphic is correct.
18.
I tried to join the webring but get this message: Sorry, no new sites are being accepted into this Ring. Is this accurate?
For some unexplained reason, that text shows up when you are going to enter yourself into the ring after receiving your invitation. Just go ahead and enter yourself like the text is there no matter how many times or where you see it.
In other words: "Pay no attention to that incorrect text behind the curtain!" :-)
19.
If I add the webring code to a page that is not my opeing page of my site, how will the people that come to ever get to my opening page of my site?
Ever think of adding a link on the webring page that points to the opening page of your site that say's this:
" <•Go to my Home Page "
And link it to your opening page.
20.
I joined the ring, I was accepted, I put the CUSTOM code on my site and the graphic does not show up. What can I do to make the image show up on my site?
You have to save the graphic for the webring to your hard drive, then, upload it to your OWN server. Make sure the path to the graphic is correct.
21.
Can you check to see if I put my code on my page correctly?
Due to the number of sites in the rings, PhenomenalWomen.com cannot check individual sites to see if the code is placed correctly on the site. You can login to the webring and test the ring. Once you are logged into your account with webring.com, click on "Edit Site Information," and you will see a link there that says 'Test'. Click on that link and the ring will check to see if your site Passes or Fails. If it passes, your site will be readded to the ring, if it fails, you still have not got the code on your page correctly. At this point, please read FAQ number 2 for the probable remedy.
22.
My site has been either denied membership, suspended, or deleted. My site is a "group" site in a "community" like MSN Groups or the like, and is password protected. Meaning, that when you come to my site, you cannot gain access to the site without first joining the group and getting a password. Why have I been nixed from the webring?
Your code points to a URL that is password protected. What is the point of joining a ring that people can surf to, but then are told they can't get in unless they have a username and password --- and since they can't get in, they can't get to the code fragment to continue on since it is locked up in your passworded site? Either open your site up to random visitors, or I'm afraid you will have to remove yourself from the rings.
23.
When I went to sign up for the OFFICIAL WEBRING FOR ACCEPTED MEMBERS OF THE PHENOMENAL WOMEN OF THE WEB, there was a screen that said ""Sorry, no new sites are being accepted into this Ring." I don't understand this since you sent me an invitation.
The invitation is 'perishable."
What this means is that the link for the invitation to enter yourself is only good for one click to the webring. You must have opened the mail before, went and looked at the application form, and then decided to enter yourself in at a later time. Once you click on the link - just one time - the link expires.
Now, you have to go back to the page that you originally went to to sign up for your invitation.
When you get your new invitation, please remember that when you click the link in the email that invites you to join the ring, be ready to add yourself then --- not later.
24.
Hi just joined your lovely webring and just placed the code on my page as explained in your directions. Please can you take a look, and let me know if everything is correct and in working order?
Unfortunately, no. Due to the enormous amount of sites in the ring, it is not possible for PhenomenalWomen.com to come to your site and inspect it. However, you can do this yourself (it is the same thing that I would do if I were checking your site and its code for correctness).
First, login to Webring.com. Go to your administration area. On the left menu, click View Ring Sites. Once there, look for the Status Checker and then the highlighted word Wizard. Click the word Wizard and it will tell you is your code is on your site correctly.
If you check yourself after you followed the instructions above, and your site still fails, write to Send_Me_A_WebRing_Worker_Bee_Please@PhenomenalWomen.com and include this information:
1. Your site title as you have it listed in the ring.
2. The URL of your site.
3. The name of the webring you are writing about.
4. Your site ID number.
5. Forward all of this information with your ORIGINAL SUSPENSION LETTER form the ring.
25.
I am trying to decide WHY my site has been suspended; I entered the code when I applied and was accepted - now it says I'm suspended because I have a "Pass-L"
In the past, the URL that the webring points to could have a link or a little button that points to where the webring fragment is placed on your site. People took advantage of that and usually buried the code on a page in the dead zone of their site with no way back to the code once they were there. Now, the CODE MUST BE PLACED ON THE PAGE THAT THE WEBRING POINTS TO. Pass_L is no longer accepted. Only sites that "Passes" will be accepted into the ring.
If you put the code on your page the correct way, and then after you are added, you move it to another page --- your site will be suspended again. The ring checks every 7 days for correct code placement. If the code is not on the page that the ring is pointing to, you will be suspended. And if it remains that way for 7 days, your site will be automatically deleted from the ring.
